Helping leaders make sense of complexity, develop strategy and turn intent into action.

Dr David Blyth.

Welcome.

My clients are typically grappling with one or more strategic challenges:

  • making sense of an environment in a constant state of flux;

  • developing a compelling strategy that drives engagement; or

  • translating intent into outcomes - a perennial ‘weak spot’ for many organisations.

I work with executives, boards and senior leadership teams as an advisor, facilitator and mentor. My practice incorporates direct executive experience and more than twenty years working with executives across resources, infrastructure, professional services and the public sector, a decade of board experience, 25 years of teaching business strategy on MBA programs, and doctoral research that asked the question: what holds leaders back?

In a world where AI can generate a strategy document in minutes, the richness and rigour of real conversations will increasingly become the differentiator for leaders and for advisors. This is where I can help.

My promise: expertise, experience, and energy.

Let me set the scene.

Meet Dr David Blyth.

I have been consulting for more than two decades across strategy, leadership and organisational performance. Some of my work has involved large-scale, long-term transformation programs, but not every strategic challenge requires a multi-year transformation.

Often, the challenge is to bring clarity, align people around a shared direction, and turn strategic intent into meaningful outcomes. My work sits at the intersection of strategy and leadership: in practice, one without the other is wasted.

Alongside my consulting, I teach business strategy on the MBA program at UWA's Business School as an Adjunct Associate Professor. I also teach strategy online for a global MBA program. Previously, I designed and launched an Executive MBA program at Curtin's Graduate School of Business and was part of Duke Corporate Education’s global educator network.

I also served on the board of ChemCentre WA for ten years, including five years as Deputy Chair and Chair.

Before establishing my consulting practice, as an Executive Director I transformed an organisation into the clear market leader. This included significant commercial experience: I bid for, negotiated and delivered multi-year, multi-million-dollar contracts. That experience continues to shape the way I work today.

I also write on strategy and leadership. Teaching, research and writing ensure my thinking continues to evolve alongside the organisations and leaders I work with.

My qualifications include a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA), an MBA and a Master of Applied Science in Medical Physics, and I was an AICD Fellow for more than a decade.

My work has taken me across Australia and internationally, including China, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Germany and throughout Africa.

Insights.

My musings on strategy, leadership and organisations, drawn from the work itself.

  • “David played an outstanding role in engaging across the organisation so that we had a shared view on the ‘why’ and the ‘how’. A year on, the organisation has made big progress on that agenda. David is a seasoned operator at the Board level, and that was entirely evident throughout the process”

    —Chris, CEO

  • “Thank you for this strategy paper. It reads like a story! It does a neat job of summarising the journey of the BU, and the corporate overlay that has driven the decision-making over the years”

    —Divisional President

  • “Hi David, thank you for sparing a few minutes today from your lunch. It was lovely to bump into you in the lobby. As I said, you have been a great & empowering influence during and beyond my MBA”

    —Kriti, Former MBA Student

  • “Thank you for the wonderful way in which you helped facilitate the morning of our Strategy Session… this was an important coming together so that we could set a common direction and vision built on the platforms of trust and collaboration. Your ability to lead the discussion, share stories, encourage participation and guide conversation was outstanding”

    —Gavin, CEO
